Asterix-pillow
My father is very fond of Asterix comics, so I decided to design a cross stitch design based on the most famous picture including Asterix, Obelix, and my father's favourite character of all Dogmatix.

"The year is 50 B.C. Gaul is entirely occupied by the Romans. Well, not entirely... One small village of indomitable Gauls still holds out against the invaders. And life is not easy for the Roman legionaries who garrison the fortified camps of Totorum, Aquarium, Laudanum and Compendium..."

This small Gaulish village forms the background for the adventures of Asterix, his best friend Obelix and all the other inhabitants, such as Getafix the druid, Cacafonix the bard and Vitalstatistix the chief of the tribe.
The adventures of Asterix and his friends were created in 1959 by René Goscinny (text) and Albert Uderzo (pictures). In that year they had just set up a small publishing company, when François Clotaud asked them to produce a children's magazine. The only constraint given to them was that it had to revolve around French culture, as he was fed up with his children only reading American comics. Goscinny and Uderzo first thought of taking a traditional story from the Middle Ages and convert it into a humorous comic, but a friend commented that that had been done before. Then they thought of the Gauls and started writing quickly as they just had a few months to finish the first issue. "Thank God we did not know that this idea had already been used twice... But when we found this out, Asterix had already been born and the first issue already been published," stated Uderzo in an interview.
