Paula & Chiel

Paula & Chiel (1996)

Two of my best friends and my brother all decided to get married within a year time after several years of living together. My friend Paula was the first of the three couples to get married and I decided to give it a try to make my own composition instead of buying a complete kit.

In the centre you can see the standard wedding elements, of course the bride and groom, the groom's hat, the bride's flower, champagne and a wedding cake. Above the couple you see a car, which is the one they used to have, and which is the only design made by me (yes, my very first!, to be honest, you have to use a bit of imagination to recognise their car!), and all the others were collected from different magazines. Around all this, there are lots of different animals, as they got married on the 4th of October: world animal day!

Arianne & Boris

On the 30th of May 1997 my friend Arianne got married. On this occasion, my friend Paula and I collaborated in a joint project. Paula designed the general outline of the project, with some general ideas on the images to be stitched. Then I did the stitching, sent all squares to Paula, who sewed them all together.

Here again I collected some designs from magazines, but this time I included a few more of my own designs, such as the bride and groom (based on a postcard), the heart/rose/rings (also based on a postcard) and Lambik on the motorbike, who all Belgian and Dutch stitchers will recognize as the clumsy friend of the family of Suske and Wiske, a Belgian comic.

Peter & Gina

My brother and sister-in-law got married on the 4th of July. As Tom Cruise's film is called 'Born on the 4th of July', which I planned to give to them, I decided to stitch 'Married on the 4th of July' on this project. Again in the centre you can see several standard wedding elements (don't the flowers look familiar?). They are placed in an enormous teapot, because when my brother was about 4 or 5 years old, he told us one day that he would get married in the teapot. We never found out what he referred to, but as there were no teapots at the wedding ceremony, I decided to stitch one for him. Around the teapot there are several other things, all referring to specific things in their lives, and all designed by me.

Monica & Gerrie

Monica & Gerrie (1999)

Designer: Thea Gouverneur

For my cousin Monica's wedding remembrance I decided to stitch two letters of Thea Gouverneur's Molly ABC, as my cousin loves cats.

Mª Carmen & Angel

Mª Carmen & Angel (2000)

Publisher: American School of Needlework "Cat Purr-sonalities"

Just a small project of two cats within a heart formed by their tails.

 Cristina & Evert

Cristina & Evert (2000)

Designer: Linda Gosse
Fabric: Aida

As you can see, its the same design as I did previously, but in other colours. Cristina is half Spanish, so I thought red would be a good colour.
